A dramatic incident unfolded at a wedding ceremony on April 27, where former Minister and BJP leader Dr. Rajkumar Kushwah was allegedly surrounded by creditors demanding repayment of money. The event took place at a marriage function in the Kushwaha Bhaurali Road area of Bhind. To understand this incident involving the former Minister of State, who is embroiled in allegations of fraud worth crores, the Dainik Bhaskar team reached the village. Four-hour standoff; police intervention required The situation escalated into a tense standoff that lasted nearly four hours, with Kushwah allegedly being surrounded by angry creditors. Police were called to the spot after tensions rose. Following intervention, a settlement discussion was held in the presence of police. The creditors were assured that financial accounts would be settled by May 10, after which Kushwah left the venue. Dehat police station in-charge Mukesh Shakya said, After receiving information about the incident, police reached the venue. All parties, including the former minister, were taken to the police station. It was agreed that the financial matter would be resolved by May 10. Allegations of multi-crore fraud surface Villagers accuse leader of land and money scam Several residents of Kiratpura and nearby villages have accused Dr. Kushwaha of cheating them out of crores of rupees in land and plotting transactions.
Jay Singh Tomar (70) said, In 2012, we gave ₹25 lakh for a plotting project. He took the money at 2.5% interest but never returned it. We trusted him as he was close to our family. He also alleged that agricultural land was used in a proposed colony project. Family members describe financial distress Jay Singh’s granddaughter Betu Tomar said: The former minister has taken around ₹3 crore from our family, including my grandfather, uncle, and villagers. She added, He often delays repayment and intimidates people using political influence and security guards. She further claimed that financial losses disrupted family plans, including marriages. Retired army personnel and others also affected Retired soldier Arun Singh said he paid money for a plot but never received ownership documents.
Other individuals, including Pradeep Singh Tomar, Akhleshwar Singh Tomar, Monu Singh Kushwaha, Bhura Singh Kushwaha, and Rajesh Yadav, made similar allegations, claiming losses of ₹20–25 lakh each without receiving plots or refunds. “I have never taken money from anyone. My work is public service and helping the poor,” he said. On land-related accusations, he stated: Bhola Ram handles plotting work. If any transactions happened, they were done by him or his associates. I am not involved. He further alleged a conspiracy: These are false allegations. A conspiracy is being made to defame me and my party. Regarding claims that he left Bhind due to pressure, he said: I travel between Gwalior and Sevda for political work. I visit Bhind whenever required. From Doctor to Politician: Kushwah’s rise Dr. Kushwah, originally from Nadaroli village in Bhind district, studied up to Class 12 and initially worked as a local practitioner, gaining popularity in rural areas.
He later entered the land plotting business and gradually moved into politics.
He contested the 2013 Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections on a Samajwadi Party ticket from Mehgaon and lost, securing 16,893 votes. In 2018, he again contested on a
Rashtriya Lok Samta Party ticket but lost. He later joined the BJP and served as Vice Chairman of the State Seed Corporation during the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government.
