In IPL 2026, Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Riyan Parag has found himself embroiled in controversy. During the match against Punjab Kings on Tuesday, he was caught on camera vaping an e-cigarette in the dressing room. Earlier, Aaron Finch, AB de Villiers and Kagiso Rabada came under the scanner. Parag’s clip from the live broadcast is going viral on social media. The video is from the 16th over of Rajasthan’s batting innings. In it, Parag can be seen allegedly vaping an e-cigarette in the presence of Dhruv Jurel and Yashasvi Jaiswal. A few days back in this season, RR manager, Romi Bhinder was also penalised for using a mobile phone inside the dresiing room in the presence of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Riyan Parag cauhgt vaping, E-cigarettes banned in India since 2019 Riyan Parag’s act is being considered serious. The Government of India has imposed a ban on the production, sale, import, and advertising of vapes and e-cigarettes under the ‘Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act (PECA) 2019’. There are provisions for imprisonment along with fines for violations. In such circumstances, the use of this by an elite athlete and team captain on a public platform is being considered a violation of law and sporting ethics. Response sought from BCCI Secretary, strict action expected soon A response has been sought from BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia on this matter. It is believed that the board will take this seriously. Vaping (e-cigarettes) is dangerous for an athlete’s health. This is also a violation of safety standards, as there is no clear information about its components. It is prohibited in the country and safety standards for elite athletes have not been established for it. BCCI may seek answers from the captain and franchise in this matter. Aaron Finch caught vaping during RCB vs RR on 2020 Earlier in 2020, former Australia skipper Aaron Finch caught vaping on camera during a match between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals. A short clip went viral, in which it was seen that Finch was exhaling smoke and taking another puff before the broadcaster soon cut back to the live action. The moment spread rapidly in social media. AB de Villiers caught on camera during SA 20 league Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers was recently seen vaping during a match in the SA20 league, sparking attention online. He was in the VIP stands when cameras captured him on live broadcast, with the footage also shown on the big screen at the venue. Brendon McCullum, Ben Stokes smoked in the washroom during World Cup In the past, former New Zealand skipper, Brendon McCullum, admitted that he had smoked inside the toilet during a smi-inal match against South Africa in the 2015 ODI World Cup. While, England Test captain Ben Stokes had also smoked inside the Lord’s washroom during the ODI World Cup final against New Zealand in 2019. Kagiso Rabada smoked outdoors during IPL In another incident, Gujarat Titans pacer Kagiso Rabada was involved into the controversy after a video went viral as he was seen smoking a cigarette from a hotel balcony.
