The murder of civil engineer Clarence alias Raja in Jabalpur was allegedly masterminded by his uncle and cousin. The accused used a ₹9 lakh bike for surveillance, tracked his movement after getting a signal, and shot him dead while he was riding his bike at around 7 am. Police have arrested two accused, while the mastermind remains absconding. A day before the official revelation, Dainik Bhaskar had reported that the uncle and his son had hatched the conspiracy. Shooters were allegedly hired over a ₹1 crore land dispute in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Separate men were assigned for surveillance, and specific roles were fixed for each accused. Ambushing attackers opened fire SP Sampat Upadhyay said that on the morning of 23 April at around 7:50 am, 39-year-old Clarence Atkins was returning home on his bike after dropping his 5-year-old son at school. Near Shiv Shakti Dawakhana in Ranjhi, attackers who were already lying in wait arrived on a numberless bike and shot him in the head with a pistol. Clarence collapsed on the spot, while the accused fled towards Ranjhi. Murder conspiracy hatched after threat According to police, Clarence had earlier been threatened that he would be killed if he was not given a partnership in the property. After he refused, Baba Nelson and his son Prince allegedly plotted the murder. Prince then brought in Mohit Thakur, Arpit Kushwaha and Tejbal alias Arun Raikwar to execute the killing. 2 bikes, 4 accused, first recce then firing Police investigation found that all four accused reached the Bada Patthar area at around 7:30 am on two bikes. Mohit Thakur and Arun Raikwar conducted surveillance near Clarence’s house and gave the signal after he left. Following that, Prince and Arpit chased him on another bike and shot him in the head near Shiv Shakti Square before fleeing. Raid based on informer’s tip, two accused arrested Acting on a tip-off on Saturday afternoon, police raided an area near Deendayal Chowk and arrested Tejbal alias Arun Raikwar (20). During questioning, he revealed the names of his accomplices. Later, Mohit Thakur (20) was also arrested near Barela Toll Plaza. Two bikes including Harley Davidson and mobile seized SP Sampat Upadhyay said CCTV footage and local informers helped police reach the killers. A numberless Harley-Davidson motorcycle worth around ₹15 lakh, a CD 100 bike and two mobile phones were seized from the accused. Those arrested include Mohit Thakur (20), a resident of Kent police station area in Kawardha, and Tejbal alias Arun Raikwar (20), a resident of Jamuniya in Narsinghpur district. The absconding accused include Prince Nelson (22), Arpit Kushwaha and Vikas alias Baba alias Rinku Nelson. Police are searching for them.
