A white dog bit 40 passers-by within three hours in Satna on Wednesday evening, creating panic from Rewa Road to Hospital Chowk. The injured were rushed to the district hospital, where a heavy rush of patients gathered for anti-rabies injections. According to eyewitnesses, the incident began around 4 pm in the Gharanala area. A white dog suddenly turned aggressive and started attacking people walking on the road. Initially, people thought it was an isolated case, but the repeated attacks soon turned the situation serious. The dog injured around 20–25 people between Gharanala and Maheshwari Sweets. It then moved towards Khermai Road, where it attacked more pedestrians. People ran for safety, with some taking shelter inside shops and homes. The dog continued towards Khova Mandi and Hospital Chowk, and later near the railway station, where it injured more people. Soon after, the injured began reaching the district hospital. Patients started arriving from around 5:30 pm, and the hospital quickly became crowded. The injection room, usually calm in the evening, was filled with patients. The injection room remained open nearly three hours beyond its scheduled time, till 7:30 pm, to administer anti-rabies vaccine (ARV) to all victims. The injured were mostly in the age group of 25 to 60 years. Fortunately, no children were injured in the incident. Even immunoglobulin was required Around 25 injured people suffered deep wounds due to severe bites. In such cases, anti-rabies vaccine alone is not sufficient, so immunoglobulin injections were also given in Ward No. 10. Doctors said this is administered to reduce the risk of infection in high-risk cases.
