A wedding celebration in Narmadapuram district turned into a scene of horror when a father-son duo allegedly attacked guests with knives and a sword, killing one person and injuring six others, including a police constable. The incident occurred on Sunday night in Naharkola village under Shivpur police station limits. Meanwhile, Jaynarayan Kir (Dolat’s brother-in-law), who was injured in the attack, died in Bhopal. He was referred from Narmadapuram to Bhopal at night. Dispute over food escalates into violence According to police, the wedding procession of 21-year-old Bhagwan Kir, son of Sitaram, was scheduled for Monday. On Sunday night, a pre-wedding feast was underway at the family home. Amar Singh Kir, a relative from the same village, was invited to eat. However, he allegedly took offence and later returned with his son Lokesh, armed with a knife and sword, launching a violent attack on those present. Eyewitness account: “They attacked anyone who came in front” Sharda Bai Kir, the groom’s aunt, said the family tried to avoid confrontation. “To prevent the situation from escalating, we locked the men inside a room. Amar Singh returned with his son carrying weapons and stabbed a woman standing outside. Hearing screams, the men broke the window to come out. Whoever came in front of them was attacked,” she said. Woman injured, chaos ensues Kshama Bai, one of the injured, recounted that she was standing outside when Lokesh attacked her first. “I tried to calm him down, but he stabbed me directly. After that, he attacked my relatives one by one,” she said. Her screams alerted others, and family members rushed out after breaking open the room. Groom’s uncle killed, several relatives injured The deceased, Daulataram Kir, was the brother-in-law of Jaynarayan Kir and the groom’s maternal uncle. He had come to attend the wedding. Among the injured are Ramnarayan, Harinarayan, Rohit Kir, Kshama Bai, and others—all relatives attending the wedding. Injured Harinarayan is in critical condition and is being treated at a private hospital in Narmadapuram. Constable stabbed 9 times while trying to arrest accused Around 1:40 AM, Constable Om Prakash attempted to apprehend Lokesh near a flour mill in the village. Lokesh allegedly attacked him, stabbing him nine times in the abdomen, chest, neck, arms, and legs. After the constable collapsed, the accused fled the scene. Other police personnel chased him but failed to catch him. The injured constable was rushed to a government hospital in Seoni Malwa and later referred to Bhopal for advanced treatment. One accused arrested, son still on the run Police have detained Amar Singh Kir, while the main accused, his son Lokesh Kir, remains absconding. Three teams have been formed to track him down, including one sent to Indore. Accused has criminal history Police said Lokesh Kir has a criminal background, with three cases already registered against Shivpur police station, including charges of molestation of a minor, assault, and issuing death threats.
