congress-workers-detained-in-bhopal:over-circulation-of-vasundhara-raje’s-alleged-letter

Three workers of the Madhya Pradesh Congress IT Cell have been detained by police in Bhopal over the circulation of an alleged letter attributed to former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on social media. Congress Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha confirmed the development via Facebook and said the party’s legal team is preparing to approach the High Court. Congress claims arbitrary detention Tankha stated that initially seven IT cell workers were detained by cyber police, of whom four were later released. However, three workers have now been kept in custody for over 27 hours. He alleged that the detention is without a valid justification and said a petition will be filed in the High Court at 1:30 PM. ‘No basis for arrest,’ says Congress In a Facebook post, Tankha wrote that the workers were detained by Bhopal Cyber Police without proper reason and tagged the Chief Minister and DGP, expressing surprise and disappointment over the action. He questioned how police action could be justified when the letter had already been widely circulated on social media since April 15–16 and was later declared fake on April 18 evening. Congress questions selective action Congress spokesperson Abhinav Barolia Mali said the alleged letter, widely shared online, had exposed the BJP on multiple issues, including women’s reservation. He questioned why action was being taken only against selected individuals when millions had shared the same content. Barolia also demanded that either FIRs be registered against all users or the authenticity of the letter be accepted. Congress alleges misuse of power Madhya Pradesh Congress in-charge Harish Chaudhary said the detention of IT cell workers is against democratic values and reflects misuse of authority. He demanded the immediate release of all detained workers and called for a fair investigation, warning that the party would approach the court if justice is not delivered. Vasundhara Raje calls letter ‘mischief’ Responding to the controversy, Vasundhara Raje said, “Truth does not need validation. The viral letter is nothing but the work of mischief-makers.” She added that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, efforts are being made to ensure equal participation of women in decision-making, which is being widely welcomed across the country. She further stated that those opposing the Women’s Reservation Act are likely to remain in opposition and will continue attempting to spread confusion. What the alleged letter claims The viral letter allegedly raises questions on women’s reservation and delimitation, suggesting inconsistencies in implementation. It questions why the reservation is not being implemented directly and transparently if intentions are clear. The letter also reportedly questions the silence of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on the issue. It further criticises political functioning, alleging a shift from nationalism and values toward power politics, and describes parliamentary speeches on women’s rights as symbolic and superficial.
