In Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh, a woman was brutally assaulted inside her house in the Pandhana police station area. The accused, Akash Patel—nephew of BJP Mandal President Jitendra Patel—allegedly entered the house at night, molested the woman and attempted to rape her. When he failed, he attacked her with a knife, cut off her breast and stabbed her multiple times in the ribs. The incident took place around 12 midnight on April 11. According to the family, the accused came from the field behind the house, broke the window grill and entered. Woman hospitalised for six days The victim’s husband said he returned home suddenly that night from Burhanpur, where he had gone for driving work. He found his wife seriously injured inside the house. He tried to catch the accused, but he fled. The woman was rushed to hospital and has been admitted for the past six days. Her condition remains critical, and doctors have advised referral to Indore for further treatment. The family said they are facing a financial crisis and are borrowing money from relatives. Accused had threatened earlier The husband alleged that the accused had entered their house in an intoxicated state on April 5 as well and had threatened to rape the woman. After that, he kept loitering near the house. On the day of the incident, he knew the husband was away. The husband said he had posted about his visit to Burhanpur on WhatsApp, which the accused saw and used to plan the attack. Police yet to register FIR The family alleged that they approached the Borgaon Buzurg police post immediately after the incident, but were told to first take the woman to hospital. They said statements were recorded at the hospital by police and the tehsildar, but even after six days, no FIR has been registered. Police response Post in-charge Avinash Bhople said no written complaint has been received so far. He added that the medico-legal case (MLC) report from the hospital described the matter as a dispute between husband and wife, and therefore an FIR was not registered.
