A massive fire broke out around 2 am between Sunday and Monday at a disposal factory located on Sonpur Road in Chhindwara. Within no time, the flames intensified and the entire factory was gutted. The fire was brought under control after 6 am, but smoke is still rising intermittently. Five fire tenders continuously sprayed water to douse the flames. In addition, four water tankers from the municipal corporation were deployed at the spot. However, due to the large quantity of polythene and disposable material stored inside the factory, the fire spread rapidly. Factory Owner and Family Also Suffered Burns The factory belongs to Deepak Sahu (30), son of Lalchand Sahu. At the time of the incident, his family was present in a house built within the factory premises. An elderly family member sustained burn injuries in the fire. While attempting to rescue him, Deepak Sahu was also injured. The elderly person was immediately taken to hospital, while Dr Manan Gogia reached the spot and administered first aid to Deepak Sahu. Family in terrible condition crying On receiving information, other family members also reached the spot. Seeing the factory engulfed in flames, they broke down, while locals were seen consoling them. Cylinders and diesel meant for a generator were also kept in the factory premises. As the fire broke out, locals showed courage and removed them, averting a major mishap. ₹28 lakh cash saved, crops damaged As the fire spread rapidly, family members managed to safely take out cash worth ₹28 lakh kept inside the house. However, other household items were destroyed in the blaze. Sparks from the fire also fell on nearby fields, damaging crops. During the incident, people first focused on saving their lives and later joined efforts to control the fire. Officials reach spot, cause yet to be known On receiving information, Kotwali police reached the spot. The naib tehsildar also arrived at the site late at night. BJP leader Arvind Rajput, Dr Manan Gogia and several social workers reached the spot and assisted in relief efforts. The cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained. The incident is estimated to have caused losses worth over ₹50 lakh. Fire under control, teams still deployed Kotwali inspector Ashish Kumar said the fire was brought under control by morning, but smoke is still rising due to the large quantity of material inside.
