The Delhi government released a new draft of the Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2026-2030 on Saturday to reduce pollution. According to this, from January 1, 2027, only electric three-wheelers (autos) will be newly registered in Delhi. After this, from April 1, 2028, only electric models will be able to be registered in the two-wheeler segment as well. The objective of the new policy is to help clean Delhi’s air and create a better ecosystem for electric vehicles. No road tax on electric cars up to ₹30 lakh The government has taken a major decision keeping middle-class buyers in mind. According to the draft: ₹1 Lakh Subsidy on Scrapping Old Car If you scrap your old BS-IV or older car at an official scrapping center, you will get an incentive of up to ₹1 lakh on purchasing a new electric car. Condition: This benefit will only be available if a new electric car is purchased within 6 months of scrapping the old vehicle. Additionally, the price of the new car should be less than ₹30 lakh. Heavy Savings on Two-Wheelers and Autos Too The government has introduced a year-on-year declining subsidy model for smaller vehicles: Government vehicles and school buses will also be electric The draft policy is prepared not only for private vehicles, but to transform the entire system: Suggestions Sought from Public, 30 Days’ Time Given The Transport Department has sought feedback on this draft from the public and experts. For the next 30 days, people can email their opinions to ‘evpolicy2026@gmail.com’ or send them via post to the Transport Department office. It may be noted that Delhi’s first EV policy came in 2020, which is now being updated and given a new form for 2030.
