A gang involved in stealing jewellery and cash from wedding ceremonies has been busted by Udaipur police, which arrested two accused who had allegedly stolen ornaments worth ₹40 lakh from a wedding reception in the city last month. On Saturday, police brought the accused to the reception venue in Udaipur and conducted a spot verification. During investigation, it was revealed that the gang had been committing similar thefts at weddings across several states including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana and Andhra Pradesh, targeting jewellery and cash. Udaipur police arrested the accused from Madhya Pradesh and also recovered stolen ornaments. Udaipur SP Dr. Amrita Duhan said that after the incident, a reward of ₹10,000 each was announced for information leading to their arrest. Both accused have reportedly confessed to over 50 such crimes across the country. First understand the Udaipur incident Explaining the Udaipur incident, the SP said that on 11 March 2026, a reception was being held at Terapanth Bhavan, Mahapragya Vihar, after the wedding of Narendra Sharma’s son Shubham. Narendra Sharma and his wife were welcoming guests at the gate, carrying a black bag containing gold and silver jewellery meant for the bride. Around 10:38 pm, the accused, posing as guests, stole the bag and fled. How police caught the gang After the incident, a police team was formed and CCTV footage from the spot was examined. Suspects were identified and, during the search, police gathered information about villages in Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh, including Kadiya Sansi and Gulkhedi, where similar crimes were being carried out. Police team set up camp in Madhya Pradesh Police deployed teams in Madhya Pradesh and developed local intelligence networks. Based on technical inputs and human intelligence, the accused were identified and named. After continuous tracking for several days, police arrested both accused and recovered the stolen jewellery. During the arrest, the accused tried to flee but fell and suffered minor injuries. Cases of attacks on police are also registered The SP said the accused are hardened criminals involved in thefts across multiple cities, including stealing jewellery and cash from wedding ceremonies as well as robbing people who had withdrawn money from banks. Several criminal cases are registered against them across different states, and their families have also been involved in attacks on police personnel. Police caught criminals from Ramgarh, MP The accused have been identified as Vikas (26), son of Salkaram Sansi, and Nakul (24), son of Rajkumar, both residents of Ashoknagar district in Madhya Pradesh (Mirakabad, now Ramgarh Kadiya Sansi, Boda police station area). Police recovered jewellery worth around ₹40 lakh stolen from the Udaipur wedding. Several cases registered against father as well Police also said that accused Nakul’s father, Rajkumar, has multiple criminal cases registered against him, including theft, burglary, robbery and obstruction of government work, with 16 cases across Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana and Maharashtra.
