A suspected scam in the name of sterilisation of stray dogs has surfaced in Mandla district. A large number of dog organs were recovered from a rented house in Sharda Colony of Binjhiya on April 9, creating panic. Officials disclosed details of the incident on April 10. Following a complaint by animal lover Nisha Thakur, a team of police and administration reached the spot and was left shocked by the scene. During inspection, the team recovered organs of around 500 male and 200 female dogs. The organs had been preserved in boxes using formalin, a chemical used to prevent decomposition. The house had been rented by a Jabalpur-based organisation, Maa Narmada Enterprises, which had been given a contract by the municipal council for sterilisation of stray dogs. Conspiracy to extort money without doing work? Complainant Nisha Thakur alleged that the organisation did not carry out any actual sterilisation work. Instead, the organs were allegedly brought from elsewhere and stored at the premises. It is suspected that these were to be shown in official records to claim payments worth lakhs of rupees without performing the procedures. Municipal Corporation Cancelled the Contract On April 10, municipal officer Gajanan Naphde said the contract had been awarded to the organisation in December last year, but despite repeated instructions, the work was not started. Due to this negligence, the contract had already been cancelled on April 2 and the earnest money deposit (EMD) is being seized. Police Investigation Will Reveal the Truth Officials from the animal husbandry department said there is a prescribed method for disposal of organs after sterilisation, but keeping them stored in such a manner is a serious matter. At present, police have registered a case and started an investigation to determine the source of such a large number of organs and identify those involved. The suspected irregularity came to light in time due to alert citizens.
