Ujjain’s Nanakheda area witnessed a controversy after a dispute broke out at a hotel when a young man and woman met there. The Hindu Jagran Manch has alleged that the hotel violated rules and that the young man has a criminal background, while police have begun an investigation into the matter. The incident took place on Friday at a hotel located in the Kalapatthar area under Nanakheda police station limits. Hindu Jagran Manch city coordinator Ritesh Maheshwari reached the spot along with workers and checked the hotel register. After this, the activists, along with police, spoke to the man outside the room. The man stated that he had come to Ujjain with his friend and that they knew each other. Police then took the man along for questioning. According to Hindu Jagran Manch’s Arjun Singh Bhadoria, the man has been identified as Sohel Sheikh, a resident of Raipur. Organisation officials alleged that the couple was denied rooms in four to five hotels in the city, and even online booking attempts failed. They further claimed that a hotel operator later provided a room after taking around ₹5,000. The Hindu Jagran Manch has alleged that the hotel violated rules and that the man has a criminal background. The organisation also claimed that the woman’s family was not aware of her location or the person she was with. It was further alleged that the man has serious criminal cases registered against him in Raipur, although police have not confirmed these claims so far. A Hindu Jagran Manch office-bearer said the matter appeared suspicious, following which police were informed immediately. He alleged that the hotel violated regulations by providing a room without proper verification and said such actions could affect the city’s reputation. At present, Nanakheda police have declined to make any official comment on the case.
