A wedding in Ratlam was underway, and the groom was about to enter the venue, when a police alert disrupted the ceremony. It emerged that the groom, Abhishek Sen, was facing a rape case filed by a minor girl. The incident took place in the Teacher Colony of Badnagar, around 60 km from Ujjain. Abhishek Sen, a resident of the colony, was set to marry a girl from Ratlam district. Wedding celebrations had been ongoing for two days, and by around 8:00 pm on Wednesday, the groom had mounted the horse and set out with the wedding procession. Before the procession could reach the venue, Badnagar police contacted the bride’s family, informing them that a case of sexual assault was about to be registered against the groom. Upon receiving the information, panic ensued at the wedding venue, and after discussions between both families, the marriage was called off. The police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against Abhishek Sen based on a complaint by a 15-year-old minor. Following the registration of the case, the accused fled the scene. The incident dates back to January. The minor victim told the police that the accused had threatened and sexually assaulted her. On the very day of Abhishek’s wedding, the family learned that the victim was pregnant. Pregnant minor had attempted suicide According to Thana Incharge (TI) Ashok Patidar, the action was taken on the basis of the 15-year-old girl’s complaint. The victim and the accused both live in the same colony. Three days before the wedding, on 6 April, the victim attempted suicide by consuming acid. During treatment, on 8 April, it was revealed that she was pregnant. She then informed her family about the entire incident. Raped by threatening, forbade from telling anyone The victim told police that on 5 January, the accused came to her house when she was alone, threatened her, and sexually assaulted her, forbidding her from telling anyone. After the groom’s wedding was fixed, she attempted suicide. Marriage of accused stopped with help of local councillor The police immediately contacted the bride’s family and explained the situation. With the help of a local councillor, the wedding was stopped before it could proceed. The police have registered cases against the accused under the POCSO Act as well as for sexual assault. Abhishek Sen fled before reaching Ratlam. The police are actively searching for him and have assured that he will be arrested soon.
