The existence of the bridge built on National Highway-44 connecting MP-Rajasthan is in danger. The reason is continuous illegal sand mining in the river. The mafia is extracting sand to such an extent that 20-25 feet deep pits have formed around the pillars. Experts say that if this continues, these pillars won’t last much longer. Actually, National Highway-44 passes over the Chambal River on the border of Rajasthan’s Dholpur and Madhya Pradesh’s Morena districts. A bridge costing approximately ₹100 crores was built on it in 2016-17. More than 5 thousand vehicles pass through it daily. If the bridge is damaged due to illegal mining going on beneath it, the connectivity between MP and Rajasthan will be severely affected.
