over-3.33-lakh-new-png-connections-added-in-a-month:govt-pushes-shift-from-lpg-amid-west-asia-crisis

The Central Government has taken one step after another to add more and more to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections. These steps are aimed at reducing the demand for Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG), especially with the current uncertain situation in West Asia. Addressing an Inter-Ministerial Briefing on Recent Developments in West Asia, Sujata Sharma, a top official in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said that the government is taking steps to promote PNG connections across the country. PNG is supplied directly to homes through pipes, making it a convenient and reliable alternative to LPG cylinders. “The Indian government has taken several steps to promote PNG connections. This is also important because it will help ease the pressure on LPG,” Sharma said. States being given priority to incentivise PNG network expansion To encourage states to expand PNG connections, the government has offered an incentive. States that make it easier for companies to expand PNG networks will get 10% more LPG for commercial use. Several states have already benefited from this policy, and more are applying. “Around eight states have been given additional allocation and applications from three states have been received and are under consideration,” she added. India adds 3.33 lakh new PNG connections In the past month alone, around 3.33 lakh new PNG connections have been given. This shows that more and more people are opting for PNG. The government’s push for PNG is part of a larger plan to provide different energy options to people and manage the demand for LPG. With global energy markets facing uncertainty due to events around the world, having alternatives like PNG is crucial for ensuring a stable energy supply for Indian households.
