Wages have been increased for about 50 lakh workers in Madhya Pradesh from the new financial year. The Labor Department has implemented new minimum wage rates from April 1, 2026. Due to Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA), workers’ wages have increased by an average of ₹9 per day, which is about ₹234 monthly. This will benefit approximately 10 lakh workers in government departments and about 40 lakh workers in the private sector and industries. Revision based on cost of living index According to the order issued by Labor Commissioner Tanvi Hudda, this revision has been made due to the increase in the average cost of living index from July to December 2025. The new rates will apply to workers in 67 categories under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948. Discontent in employee organizations Outsourced Employees Union’s State President Vasudev Sharma said that employees were expecting a monthly salary of about 26 thousand, similar to central employees, but they are disappointed with the limited increase in new rates.
