A BJP councillor was shot dead while returning from a temple in Datia. The identity of the attackers is yet to be established. Police are scanning CCTV footage. The incident took place around 8:30 am on Tuesday at Sewdha Chungi square. Eyewitnesses said Ward No. 1 councillor Kallu Kushwaha had come to the square for a walk as usual. Two other people were with him when three attackers arrived and opened fire. They fired two rounds. One bullet hit Kallu in the head and the other in the back. He collapsed on the spot after being shot. The accused fled after carrying out the attack. The case is linked to a rivalry dispute. Kallu Kushwaha was elected councillor from Ward No. 1 on a BJP ticket in 2022. On February 18, 2025, the Datia court had sentenced councillor Kallu Kushwaha along with six others to life imprisonment in the murder case of former councillor Bal Kishan Kushwaha. When the matter reached the High Court, Kallu Kushwaha was granted bail. He had come out of jail around four months ago. At present, police have sent the body for postmortem.
