Bhopal Municipal Corporation’s Mayor Malti Rai presented the budget. About ₹3,938 crore will be spent this year for the city’s development. It includes several issues related to city development; however, old promises have not been fulfilled yet. Meanwhile, Bhopal’s City Government’ has made new promises again. Promises like building 7 heritage gates and Geeta Bhavan from the last 2 years are still incomplete. In 1 year, ground-breaking ceremonies were held only for two heritage gates on the Bhopal-Indore State Highway and Hoshangabad Road. After objections from ministers and MLAs, there is little possibility of increasing property or water tax. Last time, a total budget of ₹3,611 crore was presented. Meanwhile, taxes have not been increased in this budget, but there are plans to increase delimitation charges in the wards. This will affect many consumers. Uproar in the house over beef Earlier, there was an uproar over beef in the meeting. During the question hour, Leader of Opposition Shabista Zaki asked the first question about beef and slaughterhouses. MIC member RK Singh Baghel responded to this. During this, there was a heated exchange between the Mayor and the Leader of Opposition. BJP senior councilors Surendra Badika and Vilas Rao Ghadge also protested on the beef issue. Everyone demanded action against the responsible officials. Meanwhile, the proposal to create a new parking system and the proposal to remove condemned (useless) vehicles were passed. Know what was in the previous budget… 10% increase in property tax in Bhopal, 15% increase in water tax
In the previous budget, along with increasing taxes on water, property, and solid waste, the council had also taken some decisions that surprised everyone. While the city government had imposed a tax burden on the public, on the other hand, the annual funds of public representatives, i.e., councilors, MIC members, chairperson, and mayor, were doubled. Mayor Malati Rai had announced the launch of the Mayor Smart Pass for city buses, which could not be started even in a year. In Bhopal, there has been a 10 percent increase in property tax and a 15 percent increase in water and solid waste tax. This is affecting 2.75 lakh water connections and 5.62 lakh property tax consumers in Bhopal.
