The government has taken major action against illegal online gambling and betting by blocking 300 websites and apps. According to official sources, a total of 8,400 such platforms have been banned so far, with around 4,900 websites blocked after the Online Gaming Act came into force. Sources said the platforms targeted were mainly involved in illegal betting and gambling. These included online sports betting sites, online casinos (such as slots, roulette and live dealer games), peer-to-peer betting exchanges, Satta/Matka networks, and real-money card gaming apps. The government said these platforms were promoting large-scale illegal transactions and gambling activities. To control this, continuous monitoring and action are being carried out under the IT Act and other related laws. After the Online Gaming Act came into effect, action against such platforms has increased. The government says this step aims to make the digital space safer and reduce illegal activities.
