A mob of more than 100 people mistook a man for a child kidnapper and attacked him in Rewa. The crowd surrounded the father and his child, overturned their car, and tried to assault them with sticks. Police rescue them from the crowd During the chaos, some people were heard shouting “beat them” and “set the car on fire.” Police personnel acted quickly and managed to rescue both the father and the child from the mob. Incident caught on video The incident took place on Thursday night in the Jawa area under Sohagi police station. A video of the incident, around 2 minutes and 25 seconds long, surfaced on Friday. See Pictures Family dispute behind the incident According to police, the man, Neeraj Gautam, is in a dispute with his wife, Pushpanjali Gautam. The couple has been living separately for about two months. They have a 7-year-old child. Attempt to take child led to confusion On Thursday night, Neeraj went to his in-laws’ house in a car and tried to take his child with him forcefully. This created panic in the village, and rumors of child kidnapping quickly spread. As the rumor spread, villagers gathered in large numbers and surrounded the car in the Jawa area. The situation quickly turned violent. Police call it a misunderstanding Sohagi police station in-charge Pawan Shukla said the incident happened due to a misunderstanding. Police are now investigating the case and trying to identify those who spread the rumor.
