The family of Gurkeerat Singh Manocha, a student from Ujjain who was crushed to death by a car in Canada, is facing major financial difficulties in bringing his body back to India. The family says Canadian authorities are asking for a deposit of about 40,000 dollars (around Rs 35 lakh) to release the body. Gurjeet Singh, the victim’s father, who lives in Parshwanath Colony, said the body will be released from the hospital only after 15 days due to the investigation process. He added that transporting the body from Canada to Ujjain will cost an additional Rs 10 lakh. The family has appealed to the central and state governments, as well as the local administration, for help. Gurkeerat Singh Manocha died after being run over by a car in Canada two days ago. Appeal to PM-CM Singh says that how will they arrange such a large sum. In such a situation, only the government should help us. He has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, for help. Family members said that an investigation is ongoing in Canada regarding the death. Local police have arrested some accused, while two to three other suspects are being searched for. In Ujjain, people are arriving to meet the family members. Gurkeerat’s parents and other family members are crying, remembering their son. They are still in shock, and tears are flowing from their eyes. The deceased young man’s father, Gurjeet Singh, said that his son was very calm and of noble character. He never got involved in any dispute. He said that this incident is very tragic for the family. Grief in the family Family members said that Gurkeerat had gone to Canada for studies about a year and a quarter ago. After receiving information about this incident, there is an atmosphere of grief among the family and acquaintances in Ujjain. Starting visa process to go to Canada Gurkeerat’s family friend Abhilash Jain said that family members are starting the visa process to go to Canada. They want to reach there and complete further legal formalities. Local acquaintances and community members are also in touch with the family and assuring them of all possible cooperation.
