accused-of-killing-minor,-eating-flesh:58-year-old-gudda-patel-tries-to-attack-2-boys-during-medical-check-up-in-hospital

16-17 year old boys used to harass me. That day when I saw a boy coming on a motorcycle, my blood boiled. I thought he would run his bike over me. Before he could do anything like that, I hit him with an iron rod. When I felt hungry and thirsty, I ate the flesh and drank the blood. These are the words of 58-year-old Gudda Patel, accused of killing a minor and eating his flesh and drinking his blood. On March 5, on Bhai Dooj, Gudda attacked 16-year-old Bharat Vishwakarma with an iron rod in Samanna village, then struck his head 10–15 times with a hammer. He allegedly ate flesh from Bharat’s head and drank his blood. The accused is currently lodged in Damoh District Jail. On Monday, he was brought to the district hospital for a medical examination. Even there, after seeing two boys, he tried to lunge at them. Doctors have advised that he be treated while kept in jail. Dainik Bhaskar spoke with Jailer ML Patel to understand the prisoner’s behaviour. The treating doctor was also consulted. Read the report… He also lunged at boys in hospital, police handled the situation On Tuesday afternoon around 1:30 PM, there was a crowd of patients and their relatives at the district hospital. Three to four police officers were deployed at the gate. At this time, a blue police pickup vehicle was seen entering the campus. The police officers signaled people to move aside. As soon as the pickup stopped, three policemen formed a circle and stood near the back gate. As the gate opened, four armed policemen got down. After that, they brought down Gudda in handcuffs. People start whispering among themselves. They say that this is the same cannibal who killed the boy, drank his blood and ate his flesh. Accused behaves strangely Police brought Gudda Patel to the OPD. Here, the doctor examined Gudda while he sat on the patient stool. After checking blood pressure, sugar, height and weight, they ask if he has any other illnesses. Gudda shakes his head to say no. Meanwhile, psychiatrist Dr. Abhijit Tripathi asked him some questions. Gudda started answering in yes and no. During this time, he sometimes stared at the wall or ceiling fan. He looks at the ground for long periods as if talking to someone. Then he starts looking at the doctors. Pounced on 16-17 year old boys, doctors surprised During this time, two teenagers passed by the OPD gate. Their age would have been around 16 to 17 years. Before the doctors and police could understand anything, Gudda’s facial expressions suddenly changed. He lunged towards those boys. The doctors were also surprised by the sudden incident in the OPD. They asked the police to take Gudda outside. The doctors discussed among themselves. After two-three minutes, they called the policeman and said that it’s not possible to admit and treat Gudda here. Our team will come to the jail for treatment on court orders. In a hurry, the police left the hospital, made Gudda sit in the pickup vehicle, and departed for the jail. The doctors said they will treat him in jail for a few days. If his condition doesn’t improve, he will be referred to the mental hospital in Gwalior. Jailer says, ‘He remains normal and quiet, is not insane’ In the afternoon, jail warden ML Patel was called to inquire about Gudda Patel. What he told was surprising. The jailer says that Gudda is a strange kind of prisoner. I have met thousands of prisoners in my career, but he is different. Given how he committed the crime, he has been kept separately in an eight by eight cell in the jail. His every activity is being monitored 24 hours. Talked to him several times over two days to understand his psychology. His behavior doesn’t seem like that of a mentally ill person. He remains normal and quiet. He remembers every event of his life according to date, month and year. Which jail he stayed in? Which barrack number? Who were the jail police officers? Who did he meet? He remembers everything. No remorse over incident of eating boy’s flesh, drinking blood The jailer said, when Gudda was asked about the Samanna village incident, there was no remorse on his face. He answered as if narrating a story. He said that these 16-17 year old boys are very bad. They always trouble me. That’s why I always carried a rod with me when leaving home for protection. That day when I saw the boy coming on a motorcycle, my blood boiled. I knew he was coming to harass me. He would run his bike over me. Before he could do anything like that, I attacked him. As soon as he fell, I crushed his head with a hammer. When I felt the urge to eat and drink something, I ate the flesh and drank the blood. I don’t know what happened after that. When I regained consciousness, police officers were surrounding me. I was sitting at their feet. The jailer says that it seems something happened in Gudda’s life regarding teenagers, which makes him aggressive when he sees boys. He says that boys of this age used to trouble him in the village. It’s possible that they harassed him on the day of Holi too. Remembers when and which jail he was in for wife’s murder, even the barrack number The jailer says that Gudda remembers every detail from his past life. He was sentenced 15 years ago in his wife’s murder case. He remembers which jail he was in and when. In 2011, after the wall collapsed at Sagar Central Jail, about 100 prisoners were shifted to Damoh jail. He was among them. In 2013, he was brought back to Sagar Central Jail with other prisoners. He also remembers that he lived alone in barrack number eight. He has shared all these details. On wife’s murder, he said – Police framed him The jailer says – When I asked him why he killed his wife, he first got angry. Then composing himself he said – I did not commit murder. The police falsely implicated me. At the time of murder, he was at his farm. Sometimes talks sensibly, sometimes aggressive The jailer says that his behavior is different. Sometimes he talks sensibly and sometimes suddenly becomes aggressive. He starts looking here and there. His body language changes. However, he is eating and sleeping well in jail. In between, he acts in such ways that it appears he gets seizures. Doctors will come to jail to treat him. After this, further action will be taken based on the decision.
