The festival of colors has kicked off with the Ger from Tori Corner in Indore. This group leads the traditional procession on Rangpanchami. Alongside the Ger, there is a Fagyatra, featuring a large participation of women. Seven-Decade Evolution The tradition of starting the Ger from Rajwada is about 70 years old. It began with soaking people using large vessels of color. Over time, the event has evolved from bullock carts and tractors to DJs and modern “missiles” that spray colors. See, three pictures… Scale of the Event Attendance: For the last three years, more than 5 lakh people have participated, making it one of India’s largest color festivals. Route: The celebration covers a 6-kilometer radius around Rajwada and connected routes. The Spectacle: A massive Tricolor will be created at Rajwada using 8,000 kg of Gulal made from Tesu flowers. Colors will be launched up to 200 feet high using specialized missiles. Bands, tableaux, and cultural performances remain the main attractions. Mahakal Temple: Saffron Water Holy Rituals The Rangpanchami celebrations began early Sunday morning (4:00 AM) at the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain: Bhasma Aarti: Special worship was performed after the temple doors opened. Offerings: Lord Mahakal was offered saffron-infused water and herbal colors. Following this, deities including Mata Parvati, Ganesh, Kartikeya, and Nandi were also offered colors. Adornment: The deity was adorned as a king with a Tripund, Mundmaal, and silver ornaments, followed by a Panchamrit abhisheka (milk, curd, ghee, sugar, and fruit juices). VIP Presence: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav is scheduled to participate in the Ujjain Ger procession this evening.
