A man allegedly beat his wife to death with sticks on Thursday night in Datia district of Madhya Pradesh. The children ran to a neighbour’s house after seeing their mother being assaulted. When they returned home in the morning, their father was sitting beside the body with a stick in his hand. The incident took place in the Civil Lines police station area. According to information, the deceased has been identified as Asha Adivasi, who lived in an Adivasi settlement on Sewdha Road. The couple worked as daily wage labourers to support their family. The accused, Kalicharan Adivasi, allegedly committed the murder over suspicion of an affair. Husband-wife drank alcohol at night, then had a dispute The victim’s son said his parents were drinking alcohol on Thursday night when an argument broke out between them. The dispute escalated and the accused, in a fit of rage, attacked his wife with sticks, leaving her critically injured. As the fight intensified, the two brothers left the house and went to sleep at a neighbour’s place. When they returned the next morning, they found their mother dead, while their father was sitting beside the body holding a stick. The accused then told the children that he was going to the police station. Body sent for postmortem After the accused left the spot, the children informed neighbours about the murder. The neighbours alerted the Civil Lines police, who reached the spot and took the body into custody. The body has been sent for post-mortem and will be handed over to the family afterwards. Accused was also going to kill the lover ASP Sunil Kumar Shivhare said the accused was arrested from a bus. During interrogation, he told police that his wife’s alleged lover is a resident of Nayakheda village in Chirgaon town of Uttar Pradesh. The accused had called the man to Pichhor in Shivpuri and planned to kill his wife there. He was travelling by bus to carry out the murder, but the police team intercepted and arrested him. Police have taken the accused into custody and registered a case of murder. Further investigation is underway from all angles.
