Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan turned 66 on Thursday, March 5, marking the day as Prem Seva Sankalp Diwas along with his supporters. On the occasion, he announced five major resolutions focused on environment, service, assistance, education and talent encouragement. Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended birthday wishes on X, praising Chouhan’s humility and close connection with the public. He lauded his efforts toward farmers’ welfare and agricultural development, wishing him a long and healthy life. Plantation drive and five public resolutions Chouhan planted saplings with his family at Smart Park in Bhopal and reiterated his commitment to environmental protection. Speaking to the media, he said trees are essential not only for human survival and sustenance but also for children, insects and biodiversity. He announced that in official events under the Union Agriculture and Rural Development Ministries, bouquets, shawls and mementos will be replaced with saplings. Individuals planting trees can upload their photographs through a QR code on a portal and become “Shiv Vriksh Mitra”. Appealing to supporters, he requested that no hoardings be put up on his birthday and no bouquets or gifts be brought. “If you wish to greet me, plant a tree. Protecting Mother Earth for future generations is the greatest gift,” he said. Free ‘Mama Coaching’ for competitive exams After the plantation program in Bhopal, Chouhan, along with his wife Sadhana Singh, reached Vidisha and inaugurated Mama Coaching Classes at Rabindranath Tagore Sanskriti Bhavan. The coaching will provide free preparation for competitive examinations including banking, SSC, MPPSC, DRDO and Forest services. Online classes will also be available for students unable to attend in person. The first batch of 100 students each will begin soon in Vidisha, Raisen and Bhairunda. Admission forms are being filled from today. ‘Prem-Sundar Pratibha Samman’ in parents’ memory Chouhan also announced the launch of the Prem-Sundar Pratibha Samman in memory of his parents, Prem Singh and Sundar Bai. Under this initiative, toppers of Classes 10 and 12 in all eight Assembly segments of the Vidisha parliamentary constituency will receive cash awards of ₹51,000, ₹31,000 and ₹21,000. At the parliamentary level, the top three students will receive special higher awards. Mobile hospitals to provide free treatment in villages In another major initiative, Chouhan announced the launch of mobile hospitals across all eight Assembly constituencies of the Vidisha Lok Sabha seat. These mobile medical units will be equipped with modern diagnostic facilities and staffed by qualified doctors, delivering free treatment in villages and remote hamlets. The mobile hospitals will be funded through the MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) fund, while operational expenses will be supported through public contributions. Motorised Tricycles for the specially-abled Chouhan also pledged to identify needy specially-abled individuals in his constituency and distribute motorised tricycles to help them become self-reliant and independent in their daily activities. ‘Sambhavna’ coaching initiative by Sadhana Singh Chouhan’s wife, Sadhana Singh Chouhan, started the free coaching initiative ‘Sambhavna’ in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic at their government residence in Bhopal. The program provides free coaching to economically weaker students preparing for competitive examinations. So far, around 900 students across eight batches have benefited from the initiative. Several candidates have secured top ranks in the MPPSC examination, including Pooja Singh (third rank in 2021) and Bhuvnesh Singh Chouhan (second rank in 2023).
