A video from the Sadar forest in Dhimrakheda tehsil of Katni district has gone viral after it showed a tiger reaching an ancient Shivling and rubbing its head and tongue on it for several seconds. The spot is reported to be barely 400 metres from a nearby village. The video has triggered both fear and curiosity among local residents. While some villagers are looking at the incident from a religious angle, forest officials have given a scientific explanation. According to the Forest Department, wild animals often rub their heads or bodies against stones, trees, or hard surfaces. They do this to leave their scent, mark their territory, or relieve itching. Officials say this behaviour is natural and should not be linked to any religious belief. Forest department issues alert Pan Umariya Range Officer Ajay Mishra said that forest patrol teams are closely monitoring the area. He added that villagers have been advised not to enter the forest and to remain cautious. Tiger movement has been reported earlier in Sadar and nearby areas. However, officials say the latest video has drawn more attention because the incident took place very close to human habitation. The Forest Department has once again appealed to residents to avoid going near the jungle and to immediately inform authorities if they spot any wild animal.
