A lawyer from the Khudail area of Indore has accused his wife and her alleged lover of attempting to murder him during a trip to Shillong and later fleeing with gold jewellery and cash from his residence. Police have registered a case and started an investigation. Met through matrimonial site, married in November 2024 According to the complainant, Bhupendra, he met Neelima through a matrimonial website, where she had claimed to be divorced. After getting acquainted, the two married in November 2024. He alleged that sometime after the marriage, Neelima introduced a young man named Shubham as her brother and began bringing him regularly to their home. Bhupendra later claimed that he discovered Shubham was not her brother but her lover. Alleged poisoning and attempt to push off mountain in Shillong Bhupendra alleged that during a trip to Shillong after their marriage, his wife mixed poison in his food, which caused his health to deteriorate suddenly. He further claimed that Neelima and Shubham later took him to a mountainous location and attempted to push him off. He said he survived the incident and managed to return to Indore. Suspicion grew after examining divorce documents After returning, Bhupendra said he became suspicious of his wife’s activities and obtained documents related to her previous divorce. According to him, the documents showed that Shubham was not her brother but her lover and used the surname Gupta. He said this revelation led to frequent disputes between the couple. Allegations of extortion, threats of false cases The complainant also alleged that Neelima demanded ₹20,000 every month and threatened to implicate him in false dowry cases if he refused. He claimed she spent long periods with Shubham during his visits and remained in regular contact with him through WhatsApp. Bhupendra further alleged that he found documents in a cupboard indicating that Neelima had undergone treatment for mental illness, which he claimed was concealed before their marriage. Wife allegedly fled with jewellery and cash According to the complaint, on March 3, 2025, Neelima left for Uttar Pradesh with Shubham on the pretext of celebrating Holi and did not return. Bhupendra alleged that she took around 25 tolas of gold jewellery and cash from the house. He also claimed that she later threatened him over the phone with false criminal cases. FIR registered, police begin investigation Khudail police sub-inspector Satyendra Singh Sisodia said a First Information Report has been registered against Neelima, a resident of Madori village in Jalaun district, and Shubham Sengar alias Gupta under Sections 318(4), 303(2), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Police said the allegations are under investigation and further action will be taken based on the findings.
