A video has emerged from Ratlam showing a mob beating car passengers from Indore over suspicion of child theft. Six people returning from a visit to the Sanwaliya Ji temple were surrounded and assaulted by villagers. Police reached the spot and rescued them from the crowd. The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon near Simlawada, on the Ratlam-Indore four-lane road, under the Satrunda police outpost in the Bilpank area. All six car occupants are reportedly residents of Ghatabillod in Indore. Car stopped at dhaba, then rumors spread According to reports, the car was travelling from Ratlam to Indore. Around 12:30 pm, the car stopped at a dhaba near Jhalrapada. Villagers reportedly became suspicious after seeing some children nearby. As the rumour spread, the people assumed the car occupants were part of a child-stealing gang and caught them. Soon, a large number of villagers gathered, including women, who began beating them with kicks and punches. See the images Two people fled, police rescued four The car had six occupants. During the assault, two managed to escape, while the remaining four were caught by the crowd. Police arrived on receiving the information and rescued the four, taking them to Satrunda police outpost. Youth said – they stopped at dhaba for toilet The car passengers told police they were returning to Indore after visiting the Sanwaliya Ji temple in Rajasthan. They also presented a toll receipt from Chiklia Toll, Ratlam, dated 11:51 am that day. They explained that they had stopped at the dhaba for a toilet break when some villagers mistook them for child thieves and started the assault. No one filed complaint: Police Satrunda police in-charge Lokendra Singh Dabar said that investigations are underway. Police are also gathering information from the areas the victims belong to. So far, no official complaint regarding child theft has been confirmed.
