New revelations have emerged in the shocking murder case of an MBA student in Indore. The accused, Piyush Dhamnotia, reportedly showed no remorse for the crime. Speaking to the media during police custody proceedings, he laughed and said, “What will you do knowing the reason?” Meanwhile, the victim’s younger sister alleged that Piyush had been managing her sister’s digital wallet and had taken money from it multiple times, forcing her sister to change the wallet password. Accusations about digital wallet and mobile The victim’s younger sister told authorities that about a month ago, Piyush had also broken her sister’s mobile phone. Later, pretending to take it for repair, he took the phone with him. The repair costs were paid by the victim’s sister. Despite changing the wallet password, Piyush reportedly took ₹1,800 from the victim. Piyush was arrested by police and presented in court on 15 February, after which he was granted a three-day police remand for interrogation. Today, he is scheduled to be presented in court again as his remand ends. Accused’s chilling response to media Earlier, when police were taking Piyush to his room for questioning, media personnel asked him why he had murdered his girlfriend. Laughing, he said, “What will you do knowing?” He remained silent for some time, then said from the police vehicle, “When the time comes, I will tell everything,” before being taken to the police station. Disputes over a mobile app The victim’s younger sister revealed that the app over which Piyush often quarrelled with her sister was installed by her sister on her own phone. She used it to talk to friends, and despite informing Piyush, he continued to suspect her. Piyush had also quarrelled over her contact with other boys, who were only friends, not involved in any relationship. The sister said she had repeatedly advised her elder sister to stay away from Piyush, as he was not trustworthy. Piyush had destroyed her mobile in anger when she stopped communicating with him. Incident during e-rickshaw ride in Khajrana On 26 January, Piyush had invited the victim to meet him, with her younger sister accompanying her. On the return from Khajrana, a dispute erupted in an e-rickshaw. Piyush jumped from the moving vehicle, after which the victim also got down to calm him. Evidence seized from accused’s room Police Inspector Manish Mishra and his team seized Piyush’s pants, knife, and other items from his room. Piyush reportedly admitted how he committed the crime, including how he tied the victim’s hands and feet before the murder. Disappearance and shocking messages The victim had been missing since 10 February. That day, she had gone out with her father to get her Aadhaar card corrected and informed her younger sister she was attending a birthday party with her classmate Piyush. She was supposed to return by 11 pm but never did, and her phone went offline. After the murder, at around 8 pm, Piyush allegedly sent a message from the victim’s phone to her sister saying, “Tell Papa that she will not return home.” Despite contacting friends and relatives, no leads emerged. Objectionable videos shared Investigations revealed that Piyush had shared 11 objectionable videos involving the victim on college groups and later on her WhatsApp status, sending them to saved contacts, causing panic among relatives. Arrest after police encirclement Piyush was eventually apprehended by police after a manhunt, on a train traveling from Goa to Maharashtra. His location had been traced to Goa, where he had been using the victim’s mobile phone.
