sitapur-bjp-mla-tells-sho-‘know-your-limits’:sits-on-protest-at-police-station;-demands-action-within-24-hours

BJP MLA Gyan Tiwari lashed out at police over their action and staged a sit-in protest at Rampur Mathura police station on Sunday afternoon. He arrived at around 1 pm with his supporters and sat on the ground inside the station premises. During this time, a heated argument broke out between Station House Officer (SHO) Sanjay Pandey and the MLA. The inspector said, “Sir, I will leave the police station, I will go.” The MLA replied angrily, “What do you mean you will leave? Is it your property? You will not leave on your own, you will be removed. Do you think you are doing us a favour? Know your limits. Show us by resigning.” Circle Officer (CO) Mahmoodabad Ved Prakash intervened and took the MLA aside to calm him down. The MLA said the police had ruined the lives of poor people through their actions. He also expressed anger at head constable Ravishankar Yadav and constable Vinod Yadav posted at the station. The MLA alleged that late Saturday night, the police forcibly shut down a ‘nautanki’ (folk theatre) programme and took action ignoring the rules. Around two hours later, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ankur Agarwal spoke to the MLA over the phone and assured him that action would be taken within 24 hours. Only after this assurance did the MLA agree to end his protest. To pacify the MLA, the station in-charge even sat on the ground. After the argument, he later got up and left, while the Circle Officer remained present at the scene. MLA stages protest, demands action against police staff On Sunday afternoon, the BJP MLA reached Rampur Mathura police station with his supporters and began protesting while sitting on the ground. CO Ved Prakash assured him of an inquiry and action, but the MLA remained firm on his demands. He said his protest would continue until action was taken against the station in-charge, head constable, and constable. The MLA levelled serious allegations against the police, saying their behaviour had created fear and resentment among the public. He warned that if action was not taken against the guilty officers, he would raise the issue at higher levels. He also accused the station in-charge of acting arbitrarily and targeting BJP workers unfairly. ASP ordered to investigate the matter During the protest, a large crowd gathered at the police station, creating chaos for some time. Additional police forces were deployed to control the situation. The incident is related to the Rampur Mathura police station area, and officials have been directed to prepare a detailed report. At around 3 pm, the MLA got up from the ground and sat on a chair. The Circle Officer facilitated a phone conversation between the MLA and SP Ankur Agarwal, who assured him that an inquiry would be completed and action taken within 24 hours. Following this assurance, the MLA ended his protest and left with his supporters. SP Ankur Agarwal said that ASP South Durgesh Singh has been assigned to investigate the matter, and further action will be taken based on the inquiry report.
