In Jabalpur, a 30-year-old woman was first invited by two acquaintances to an alcohol and chicken party. After the gathering, she was gangraped. When the woman protested and threatened to inform her family, the accused strangled her to death and burned her bag to destroy evidence. The incident falls under the Panagar police station jurisdiction. Police have now arrested both murderers, a month after the crime came to light. One of the accused attempted suicide by ingesting pesticide out of fear of arrest and is currently admitted to a medical college hospital. Body found near Muria Canal According to Panagar Station Officer Vipin Tamrakar, on the morning of 12 January, the police received information about a woman’s body near Muria Canal village. The body was sent to the medical college for post-mortem. The deceased, a 30-year-old resident of Kundam, used to live and work at a farmhouse in Panagar along with her husband and children. Went to market at 4 PM, did not return till 8 PM The woman went to the Panagar market alone around 4 PM on 10 January but did not return by 8 PM. Her husband informed her in-laws, and family members searched the area but found no trace. On 12 January, police located her body near Muria Canal, identifying her as the missing woman. Body found in semi-naked condition, neck bone was broken The woman was found semi-naked in the canal, and post-mortem reports revealed she had consumed alcohol before death. Her death was caused by a broken neck bone. Police then began searching for the culprits. Forced when she made noise, murdered after threats CCTV footage from the crime scene revealed that the woman was last seen with Mukesh Singh. During questioning, Mukesh said that Monu, another acquaintance of the woman, instructed him to take her to a room at the pump house. The three then had an alcohol and chicken party. Later, Monu gangraped the woman. When Mukesh also attempted to assault her, the woman shouted. In response, the two men forcibly assaulted her. When she threatened to inform her family about both men, Mukesh and Monu strangled her and disposed of her body about 200 metres away in the canal. They burned her bag, sari, and slippers to destroy evidence. Got scared seeing police, consumed pesticide After arresting Mukesh, police began searching for Monu, also known as Mahesh Marko. On the night of 12 February, Monu was apprehended and brought to the police station, where his condition deteriorated. He was immediately taken to Panagar Health Centre and revealed that, fearing arrest, he had consumed pesticide kept at his home. Monu is now admitted to the medical college for observation. Doctors have reported that his condition is stable, but he remains under medical care for further treatment.
