When I saw the body, there were no clear signs of acid or poison consumption. Neither were the clothes damaged, nor were there any signs of vomiting or distress. Even the acid bottle was not found at the scene. We were not being allowed to go to the washroom. They said police had sealed it. These serious allegations have been made by Vantar Singh, father of MBBS student Roshni who died by suicide on February 10 in Bhopal. He says that his daughter was not so weak that she would take such a step like suicide. Vantar Singh said – We don’t trust the information given by the PG warden and college management. There should be an impartial investigation of the incident, so that no other Roshni’s life ends like this in future. Roshni’s father’s allegations are serious also because 6 similar cases have come to light from AIIMS, Hamidia and private colleges between July 31, 2022 and January 5, 2026. Before Roshni, the death of Dr. Rashmi Verma, Assistant Professor in the Department of Trauma and Emergency Medicine at AIIMS Bhopal, had shocked everyone. She was treated at AIMS Bhopal for about 24 days after a suicide attempt. Meanwhile, the college management says that in the past 2 years, 40 cases of depression came up among students. We saved them. If we had known about Roshni, we would have saved her too. Now read what allegations Roshni’s father made… Only one clip shown in the name of footage Father Vantar Singh said that his daughter had chosen Gandhi Medical College herself. She acknowledged there was academic pressure, but we cannot accept that she would commit suicide. The way the narrative was constructed after the incident has many contradictions. The information given to the family raises doubts. I demanded to see the complete CCTV footage, but I was only shown a short clip from the night. We were told that the complete footage was given to the police. We were only shown that the child was going towards the washroom. What happened after that was not told to us. When we reached Gandhi Medical College and tried to present our concerns, the senior students themselves started trying to calm us down. We were asking questions. They were giving roundabout answers from their side. We don’t believe that our daughter could commit suicide. The entire incident should be investigated seriously. Dean said – If we had information, we could have saved her Future action plan in GMC Mental screening should be done before admission Psychologist Dr. Satyakant Trivedi says that increasing suicides among medical students are a warning sign. Family environment is also responsible in 40 to 45 percent of cases. If the family is judgmental or expectations are too high, stress increases. Mobile phones can be both helpful and harmful. Too much screen time disrupts sleep, which increases mental stress. Continuous suicides occurring in medical field The case of Roshni has become part of a long series of suicides related to the medical field. In the past few years, many students and doctors have committed suicide at AIIMS Bhopal, Hamidia Hospital and other medical colleges. In most cases, excessive pressure from studies and work has emerged as the reason. More than 6 such cases have been recorded since 2022.
