The grand complex taking shape over 11 acres in Bartuma, Makronia area of Sagar, is now visible from afar. About 90 percent of the construction of the Sant Ravidas Temple and Art Museum, being built at a cost of 101 crore rupees, has been completed. Iron or steel has not been used in this temple, which is being prepared in Nagara style. This construction is being done with stones from Banshi Paharpur, used in the Ram Temple of Ayodhya, on which artisans from Rajasthan are doing intricate carving. Pillars have been erected and the work of spire construction is progressing rapidly. The construction of the temple was supposed to start in September 2023 and be completed by August 2025, but due to lack of budget, it will now be completed by March 2026. A museum with four galleries is being built
The Sant Ravidas Temple is being constructed in Nagara style with stones. Additionally, an interpretation museum of a special style, showcasing the philosophy of Sant Ravidas with cultural and creative features, is also being constructed. The museum is being built over 20,500 sq ft, and it includes four galleries. The first gallery will display the life of Sant Ravidas Maharaj. The second gallery will be based on Sant Ravidas Maharaj’s path of devotion and his contribution to the Nirgun sect. The third gallery will focus on the influence of Sant Ravidas’s philosophy on various beliefs and the Ravidassia sect. The fourth gallery will include poetic, literary, and contemporary descriptions of Sant Ravidas. Additionally, a library and a community hall have been built in ten thousand square feet. It will have a collection of all literature on Sant Ravidas Maharaj’s path of devotion and philosophical thoughts. There will also be a library equipped with all modern facilities. A symbolic replica of the water tank is being constructed near the Sant Ravidas temple in the Kund Mandir complex. The tank has taken shape.
Shivraj announced, PM performed Bhoomi Pujan
On February 8, 2023, at the Sant Ravidas Mahakumbh held in Kajliwan Maidan, Sagar, the then Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced the construction of Sant Ravidas Maharaj’s temple at a cost of 100 crore rupees in Bartuma, Sagar. After this, on August 12, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to Sagar and performed the Bhoomipujan (groundbreaking ceremony) of the temple. The construction work of the temple started on September 1, 2023. The deadline for the temple’s construction has been set for August 2025. CM will be the Chairman of Sant Ravidas Cultural Unity Trust
The more water on the red stone, the more it shines
Assistant Engineer Dehriya informed that the temple is being constructed on an area of 10 thousand square feet. The height of the temple will be 66 feet. Pink and red colored stone from Bansi Paharpur is being used in the construction of the temple. This stone is also known as sandstone. About 70 thousand cubic feet of stone will be used to build the temple. The sandstone from Bansi Paharpur is much stronger and of better quality compared to ordinary stones. The age of this stone is believed to be around 5 thousand years. Additionally, it becomes even more radiant when water falls on it. It remains in one form for thousands of years. Artisans from Sikandra, Bharatpur, and Udaipur in Rajasthan have come to Sagar to carve the sandstone used in the construction of Sant Ravidas Temple. More than 150 artisans are engaged in shaping the stones to be used in the temple. However, some artisans have returned. Artisans from Sikandra are known across the country and abroad for giving shape to stones. The devotee accommodation (bhakt niwas) has been constructed in the temple complex over an area of approximately 12500 sq ft. It includes 15 fully equipped air-conditioned rooms for the stay of visiting devotees. Additionally, a dormitory (sleeping room) has been constructed to accommodate 80 people. A fully equipped food court has also been constructed over 15000 sq ft for pilgrims visiting the temple complex. Near the temple’s entrance, two gazebos, each approximately 1940 sq ft, have been built. The life story of Sant Ravidas Maharaj will be depicted throughout the complex through mural sculptures. Construction work is being carried out rapidly in the temple complex. More than 300 laborers, artisans, and masons are working daily. MP Tourism engineer Vivek Choubey informed that the temple construction work is continuously underway. Approximately 90 percent of the work has been completed so far. Full efforts are being made to complete the construction work by March 2026. Vivek Chaubey informed that the foundation work of the temple has been completed. Pillars are standing. The work on the spire is being started with the help of a crane. The museum foundation work is in its final stage. Two floors of the dormitory, Bhakt Niwas (devotee residence), boundary wall, and Ravidas Kund work have been completed. Engineer Vivek Chaubey informed that the construction of Ravidas Temple and Museum is in its final stage. 90 percent of the work has been completed.
