A 21-year-old woman was brutally murdered with a sharp weapon in Bhartiapur village, under the Sultanpur police station area of Raisen district, on Monday afternoon. The accused, a young man from the same village, later died during treatment after being severely beaten by villagers. According to police, the young woman had left her home on Monday afternoon to take food to her brother, who was working in a nearby field. While on her way, she was stopped by Prakash Singh Bhilada, a resident of the same village. Police said the accused attempted to sexually assault the woman after stopping her on the path. Killed for resisting assault When the woman strongly resisted, the accused attacked her repeatedly with a sharp weapon, locally known as a buka. He struck her on the jaw and neck, causing fatal injuries. The woman died on the spot due to excessive bleeding. After killing her, the accused allegedly dragged the body into the field. At the crime scene, the victim’s lower garments were found missing, raising suspicion of sexual assault. Police are investigating this angle as well. Villagers chase and catch the accused Following the incident, the accused fled the scene. As news spread, anger gripped the village. A large number of villagers began searching for him and later found him injured near the Ghoghra river in the Kamrora area, a short distance away. The villagers caught hold of the accused and assaulted him severely. On receiving information, Sultanpur police reached the spot and shifted the injured accused to hospital. Accused dies during treatment Late at night, during treatment at the hospital, Prakash Singh Bhilada succumbed to his injuries. Doctors declared him dead. Additional Superintendent of Police Kamlesh Kumar Kharpusse confirmed that the houses of the deceased woman and the accused were located directly opposite each other. Following the double death, tension prevailed in the village. The police force was deployed to maintain law and order. A murder case has been registered based on the complaint of the woman’s family. Separately, police have initiated an inquiry into the death of the accused based on a complaint lodged by his family. 6 detained for questioning Police have taken six people into custody in connection with the incident and are questioning them. Further action will be taken after the post-mortem reports and forensic examination. It has also emerged that the woman had studied in Bari a few years ago, during which time she came into contact with the accused. Both families lived opposite each other and were known to each other before the incident.
