With no immediate clues or evidence, the case quickly became a major challenge for the police and a topic of widespread public discussion. What was the whole matter? Who was the person who fired shots in the house that night and why did he fire? Read Part-1 of Crime Files… What really happened that night? Who was the attacker? Why did he open fire? What was the motive behind the crime? Here is Crime Files – Part 1, detailing the terrifying events of that night. The horrifying night of 14 July At around 8:30 pm, light rain was falling in Bhairunda. Everything appeared normal at the home of Inder Keer. Inder had gone to the market, while his wife Lalita Keer (42) was preparing dinner in the kitchen. Their children—Uday (19) and a 15-year-old daughter—were studying in their room. The youngest daughter, Aarti Keer (17), was sitting in the hall watching television. Due to the rain, the surroundings were unusually quiet. According to family members, the main door was not properly closed. Taking advantage of this, a man carrying a pistol quietly entered the house. Three bullets fired at the teenager As Aarti turned after sensing movement, she came face to face with a masked man holding a pistol, rage visible in his eyes. Before she could react or scream, the attacker aimed the gun and fired three shots. Aarti collapsed onto the sofa, screaming in pain. Mother shot while trying to save her daughter Hearing the gunshots, Lalita rushed out of the kitchen and saw her daughter lying in a pool of blood. Without thinking of her own safety, she tried to grab the attacker and snatch the pistol. The attacker responded by firing two bullets at Lalita, seriously injuring her. Brother’s brave attempt Hearing the chaos, Uday and his sister ran out of the room. Shocked by the sight of their mother and sister lying injured, Uday gathered courage and jumped at the attacker. The attacker tried to shoot again, but by then all six bullets had been fired and the magazine was empty. Realising he was trapped, the accused ran upstairs, jumped onto a neighbouring rooftop, and escaped under cover of darkness. Chaos at the hospital After the attacker fled, Uday immediately called his father, saying in a trembling voice: “Papa, come home quickly. Someone has shot mum and Aarti.” Neighbours rushed in, and with their help, the injured were taken to the Bhairunda Community Health Centre. Dr Rahul Dangi, on night duty, quickly understood the seriousness of the case and informed the police. Despite efforts, Aarti was declared dead. Lalita was referred to Bhopal, where doctors later removed a bullet from her head during surgery. Police investigation and Unanswered questions The brutal crime shook the local police. Nasrullaganj police registered a case of murder (Section 302) and attempt to murder (Section 307) against an unknown accused. The absence of CCTV cameras in the house made identification difficult. Police questioned eyewitnesses, family members, and neighbours. A key witness, neighbour Tara Tripathi, told police: “I heard screams and abuses from Inder’s house. When I ran towards it, a young man dressed in black pushed me aside and ran away.” What was the motive? As the investigation continues, several questions remain unanswered: To be continued in Madhya Pradesh Crime Files – Part 2.
