The US and Iran war had severely impacted the supply of LPG cylinders. Whether domestic or commercial cooking gas, prices have rapidly increased. Food items have become 20 percent more expensive due to the surge in the prices of LPG cylinders. On the other hand, oil companies have stopped issuing new connections. People have been struggling to get new gas connections for the past three months. In Bhopal, more than 8,000 new connection cases have become pending. Students are most troubled by the unavailability of gas. Raghav, a student preparing for the NEET exam, said that before the gas crisis, they were getting cylinders in the black market, which were easily available for 1000 to 1200 rupees, but now they are paying two and a half to three thousand rupees. The high cost has impacted their entire budget. He applied for a new connection, but the agency informed him that new connections are not being issued. He said, “I have visited the agency two to three times for a connection, but each time I am told that connections have been stopped by the oil companies.” Relief expected now With the announcement of the ceasefire, there is hope for relief regarding new connections. Bhopal’s Food Controller Chandrabhan Singh Jadon stated that he has spoken to oil companies in this regard. The concerned parties say that discussions are ongoing at a high level. Possibly, a decision regarding new connections might be taken from next month. 4500 cylinders sold out of 6000 New connections have been stopped ever since the start of the war. For new LPG connections, companies even closed the online portal. Thus, customers were also given the option of a 5Kg cylinder instead of 14Kg. Subsequently, 6 thousand cylinders with 5Kg capacity were sent to a total of 41 gas agencies in Bhopal. Food Controller Jadon says that approximately 5.5 thousand cylinders have been sold. However, it is not clear if it will be converted to 14Kg when the portal starts.
