Barwani police have arrested the step-uncle in connection with the rape and murder of a 7-year-old girl. Acting on information from an informant and supported by technical and scientific evidence, the accused was taken into custody. During interrogation, he broke down and confessed to the crime. Accused produced in court remanded to jail. On Monday, the child’s body was discovered in the Indira Sagar canal near Mundla village under Rajpur police station limits. The post-mortem report revealed signs of sexual assault and severe injuries, confirming that the cause of death was drowning. Given the gravity of the case, Superintendent of Police Jagdish Dawar constituted a special investigation team, which swiftly traced and apprehended the culprit within 48 hours. Confession during police interrogation Based on statements from the victim’s family and witnesses, suspicion fell on the girl’s step-uncle. Police took him into custody for questioning. During psychological interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime. He revealed that around 8 PM on Sunday night, while family members were asleep and the girl’s father was away irrigating the fields, he abducted his stepbrother’s daughter. Threw victim into canal to silence her The accused admitted that he took the child near the canal behind the house, where he sexually assaulted her. When the girl began crying and screaming, he threw her into the canal with the intent to kill.
