In Indore, the death toll from contaminated water has risen to 28. Retired teacher Rajaram Baurasi (75) from Bhagirathpura passed away on Sunday during treatment. Baurasi also served as the ward president for the Congress party. Family members said that Rajaram Baurasi developed vomiting and diarrhoea on Friday. As his condition worsened, he was first taken to a local doctor, but did not find relief. On Saturday morning, he was admitted to the Government Super Speciality Hospital, where he died during treatment on Sunday. Meanwhile, the health department stated that according to his 2018-19 angiography report, Rajaram Baurasi suffered from heart disease. He also had high blood pressure and diabetes. Available medical documents do not confirm vomiting or diarrhoea. Currently, ten people affected by contaminated water are admitted to the Government Super Speciality Hospital, four of whom are in the ICU. Among them, the condition of one female and one male patient is critical. Coordination between administration and locals Rajaram Baurasi was also an active member of the Laxmibai Nagar Railway Station Development Committee and the Railway Police Safety Committee. When the situation worsened due to contaminated water in Bhagirathpura, he worked to coordinate between the administration and residents. He also participated in protests organised by the Congress party. According to locals, during the crisis, Baurasi played a key role in ensuring the voices of affected families reached the authorities. He had also been active in fighting for the rights of teachers in grant-in-aid schools across the state. Earlier, on Friday, 63-year-old Badri Prasad passed away. His son Shailendra said he was admitted to MY Hospital on 4 January due to vomiting and diarrhoea. After four days, he was discharged, but on 17 January, his condition worsened and he was taken to Arbindo Hospital. He died on Friday afternoon. Meanwhile, on Thursday night, 82-year-old Vidya Bai died at Arbindo Hospital. Her son, Shivnarayan, said his mother had been suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea since 10 January. She was being treated at home. On Tuesday, she fell while going to the bathroom due to weakness and was immediately taken to hospital, where her hip bone was fractured. Due to her age and weakness, surgery could not be performed, so she was brought home. On Thursday night, her condition worsened, and she was taken to Arbindo Hospital again, where she died two hours later.
