dispute-between-sahil-and-salman-leads-tarana-violence:stone-pelting-communal-riots-cause-loss-to-public-and-private-properties;-police-arrest-25

For two days, there were tense situations in Tarana, Ujjain. More than a dozen buses, about 9 cars, and several shops were damaged. One bus was also set on fire. Several houses were attacked with stones, weapons, and sticks. Police have arrested 25 people so far. After controlling the situation, markets opened on Saturday morning. According to the administration, the situation in the area is currently completely normal, and police forces are deployed. However, there are only two characters behind the story of this violence that erupted in Tarana. Both Muslim and Hindu sides know them. Despite more than 350 police personnel being deployed in Tarana, a town with a population of 25,000, arson and stone-pelting occurred. Dispute arose from youths of two communities
It is being told that the root of the entire dispute was a conflict between Bajrang Dal activist Sahil Thakur and Salman Beg, a resident of Kazi Chowk. Sahil Thakur was continuously working to stop love jihad and for cow protection. Because of this, Salman Beg had developed enmity with him. These two came face to face many times. However, there was no dispute between them. But, on the evening of January 23, Sahil Thakur and Rajat Thakur received information that a box was stuck in a cow’s mouth. Both reached to remove the box from the cow’s mouth. Meanwhile, Salman, who was passing by, stopped his car. He abused Sahil and left from there. Salman attacked with his companions
On January 23, around 7 PM, Sahil was sitting with his brother Rajat near Shri Ram Temple. Suddenly, Salman arrived there with his companions. With him were Ishan Mirza, Sappan Mirza, Shadab alias Idli, Rizwan Mirza, and Naved. All of them attacked Sahil. Upon receiving information that Sahil was seriously injured, Hindu organizations gheraoed the Tarana police station, demanding the arrest of the accused. During this, agitated people broke the windows of about a dozen buses and approximately 10 cars parked at the bus stand. Half a dozen shops and a clinic were also pelted with stones and vandalized, spreading tension in Tarana. On Friday night, Hindu organizations also gheraoed the police station. The police assured early arrests and dispersed the crowd. Former councilor’s shop set on fire
Since Friday morning, the situation remained tense throughout Tarana. All shops remained closed and people stayed indoors. The situation remained calm until 2 PM. Meanwhile, former councilor Azad Khan’s scrap shop was first set on fire. A short while later, after the Friday prayers, a bus parked in Mahesh Nagar was set on fire, further escalating the tension. Before the bus fire could be extinguished, people from the minority community in Takia Gali targeted more than a dozen houses and a temple with weapons and stones. Stone pelting occurred, police conducted a flag march
Both sides confronted each other. Reports of stone pelting continued to come in from areas like Mahesh Market, Madarwada, and Nayapura until late at night. A timber yard was also set on fire at night. Collector Roshan Kumar Singh, DIG Navneet Bhasin, and SP Pradeep Sharma conducted a flag march with heavy police force in the tense areas. SP Pradeep Sharma stated that continuous patrolling is being carried out in the area and the situation is under control. A case has been registered against unknown miscreants in the bus burning incident and an investigation is underway. 15 suspects have been arrested on charges of creating mischief. The situation is currently under control.
