A 19-year-old BTech student allegedly died by suicide at the Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV) Girls’ Hostel in Gandhi Nagar, Bhopal. The incident reportedly occurred following an argument between the student and a female member of the hostel staff. According to the information, the deceased, identified as Savyashri Munagala, a first-year BTech student of Computer Science and Business Systems (CSBS), originally from Dhar district. She was residing in the girls’ hostel located within the RGPV campus. Argument with staff, then silence According to preliminary information, Savyashri had dinner on Wednesday night and then went to her room. She did not come out until the afternoon of the following day. Concerned hostel mates informed the hostel staff after repeated attempts to contact her failed. Room found locked, police informed SI Kanhaiyalal Yadav said the hostel warden went to check the room and repeatedly called out, but received no response. The police were then informed. On arrival, the police had the room opened and found the student hanging from a scarf (dupatta). The body was taken down immediately and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was called to the spot for investigation. No suicide note recovered During the search of the room, no suicide note was found. However, the police have seized the student’s mobile phone and laptop, which will be examined as part of the investigation. Postmortem to be conducted in presence of family The police have informed the student’s family members, who are travelling from Dhar. The postmortem examination will be conducted in their presence. After completing the legal formalities and Panchnama proceedings, the body is being sent to Hamidia Hospital mortuary. Police officials said that further action will be decided only after recording detailed statements of the family members and fellow students, and after the postmortem report is received.
