The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has written to the International Cricket Council (ICC), supporting Bangladesh’s stance of not wanting to play the T20 World Cup in India. Bangladesh have been adamant in their decision, refusing to play in India due to security concerns after Mustafizur Rahman’s IPL ouster. The ICC has had numerous discussions with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), but both sides haven’t budged from their original stances. While Bangladesh want their matches to be moved to Sri Lanka from India, the ICC are keen on sticking to the original schedule. Pakistan Cricket Board writes to ICC backing Bangladesh’s stance According to ESPNCricinfo, the PCB mailed the ICC, supporting Bangladesh’s decision to not play in India. This comes amidst reports of Pakistan even reconsidering their participation in the tournament if Bangladesh’s issue is not solved. There have also been reports of Pakistan even halting their preparation for this tournament as this controversy rages on. Pakistan, part of Group A alongside India, will play all their group stage matches in Sri Lanka. ICC to hold board meeting on Wednesday The report by ESPNCricinfo also stated that the ICC is set to have a board meeting on Wednesday in a bid to resolve this controversy, with just 16 days left for the tournament. It was not clear as to whether Pakistan’s email to the ICC led the apex body to call for a board meeting. It remains to be seen what emerges from the meeting with Bangladesh, adamant about not playing in India. Asif Akbar, a BCB director also had said that Bangladesh might even boycott the tournament if forced to play in India. Bangladesh have been firm in their decision to not play in India ever since Mustafizur was excluded from Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) squad for IPL 2026. This came on the back of threats received by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after reports of anti-Hindu violence in Bangladesh emerged. “If India cannot provide security to Mustafizur, how can they provide security to the entire Bangladeshi team?” Akbar had said, in an exclusive interaction with Bhaskar English.
