A major scam has surfaced in Khargone involving the statue of tribal hero Tantya Mama. While the Municipal Council floated a tender to purchase a bronze/stone statue worth around Rs 10 lakh, a fiber (FRP) statue costing barely Rs 1 lakh was installed and inaugurated instead. Once the discrepancy came to light, resentment spread among the tribal community, and serious questions began to be raised about the role of the administration. The Municipal Council had approved Rs 40 lakh on September 24, 2025, for the beautification of Tantya Mama Tiraha. Subsequently, a tender was issued on the GeM portal for the statue, clearly specifying materials such as bronze, marble, or sangmarmar. The tender described a 7.5-foot-tall metal statue weighing about 300 kg, but despite these conditions, a fiber statue was procured and installed. Tribal community warned of agitation Jayas State Patron Shivbhanu Singh Solanki says, A bronze statue of revolutionary Tantya Mama was to be installed. By installing a statue worth one lakh rupees, the sentiments of the tribal community have been hurt. If the statue is not installed as announced, a phased agitation will be carried out. At Tantya Mama Square, they have been continuously demanding the removal of the liquor shop for some time, but no action has been taken. Khargone Municipal Council CMO Kamla Kaul said, In the PIC meeting, it was decided to blacklist the company and install a metal idol. A mistake was indeed made in haste in this matter. Notices have been issued to engineers who did not conduct physical verification. A departmental inquiry is also being undertaken. The company’s payment has been stopped.
