Women not granted full reservation in nursing colleges:Applications for 286 posts reopened; male candidates can now apply until 13th of this month

In Madhya Pradesh, male candidates can now apply for 286 teaching posts earlier reserved only for women. These include Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Tutor positions. The MP High Court heard a petition from male applicants on Wednesday and directed the Employee Selection Board (ESB) to issue a revised advertisement. The ESB told Justice Vishal Dhagat’s court that the advertisement was updated on the night of January 6. On December 16, an advertisement was issued for direct recruitment to 286 academic posts in government nursing colleges across the state. In this, all 40 Associate Professor, 28 Assistant Professor, and 218 Sister Tutor posts were reserved exclusively for women. Male candidates were completely excluded
Advocate Vishal Baghel filed a petition on behalf of Jabalpur resident Naushad Ali and other petitioners. He informed the court that male candidates were completely excluded from these recruitments in government nursing colleges of the state. Whereas recruitment rules and all standards of the Apex Council INC do not permit gender discrimination. Despite all this, the recruitment being carried out by the Department of Public Health and Family Welfare is ignoring Articles 14, 15, 16 of the Constitution and the recruitment rules. The petition alleged that this recruitment process by the government violated the 50% reservation limit of the Supreme Court’s Indra Sawhney case. Under Article 16(2) of the Constitution, this is direct gender discrimination. In this matter, the High Court had sought a response from the government on December 29. The principal bench also heard the case on Tuesday. The government orally stated that male candidates would now also be included in the recruitment process. Men declared ineligible in recruitment for 68 posts It is noteworthy that after the matter came to light, the government had excluded 218 advertised posts of tutors from the recruitment process, but the recruitment process for a total of 68 posts of Assistant Professor and Associate Professor was being advanced by declaring men ineligible. During the hearing in the High Court on January 6, the board verbally agreed to include male candidates, accepting the petitioners’ demands. Now, in tomorrow’s hearing, a final decision will be made on the candidature and eligibility of men.
