The FMCG company, Nestle, has recalled some of its SMA, BEBA, and NAN baby formulas from store shelves in several European countries, reported Reuters. Are these products available in India? Yes. Nestle has recalled the products from the European markets only as a toxic element which was found in these products were manufactured by Nestle’s one of the suppliers in Europe and not in India. Which toxic product has been found in Nestle products? According to the report, there might be a toxin in the formula that could make babies sick. Symptoms could include feeling nauseous, vomiting, and stomach cramps. Affected Countries: The recall includes products sold in European countries like Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, and the UK. What Nestle said? Nestle says the issue came from an ingredient supplied by one of its main suppliers. They’ve been testing all the ingredients used in the baby formula to find the source of the problem. No Confirmed Illnesses: So far, the US based FMCG major has said there haven’t been any confirmed cases of babies getting sick from the affected formula. Austrian officials have said that this is the biggest product recall in Nestle’s history, affecting products from many factories. What should consumers do? Nestle has published a list of specific product codes that should not be used. They are working to make sure there aren’t any major shortages of baby formula.
