Police have arrested a man in Satna for trying to kill his wife to escape a bank loan. The accused allegedly mixed phenyl tablets in water and forced his wife to drink it. She was rushed to hospital after her health worsened. The incident took place in the Bagaha area under the Civil Line police station. The victim, Poornima Tripathi, told police that her husband, Anurag Sohan Tripathi, had opened a firm named Rudra Enterprises in her name. The firm dealt in surgical materials. She said a loan of Rs 35 lakh was taken from SBI Bank in the name of this firm. To avoid repaying the loan, her husband tried to kill her. Based on her complaint, police registered a case and arrested the accused. Came drunk and started assaulting Poornima told the police that her husband used the entire loan amount, while the responsibility for the debt remained in the wife’s name. According to the victim, on the night of December 28, Anurag came home drunk and started abusing and assaulting her, causing injuries to her face and mouth. The next day, on the morning of December 29, around 10:30 AM, the dispute escalated again. Meanwhile, the accused ground the phenyl tablets kept in the bathroom, mixed them in water, and forcibly made his wife drink it. The woman alleges that her husband said that if she died, the loan of 35 lakh would be waived. The woman remained admitted to the hospital until January 1. After being discharged, she filed a complaint at the police station late at night with her family. Handed over pictures of the assault to the police After drinking water mixed with phenyl, Poornima’s condition suddenly worsened and she started vomiting continuously. Upon regaining consciousness, she called her father and narrated the entire incident. Her family immediately reached the spot and took her to the hospital for treatment, where she was treated at Birla Hospital. The victim also stated that her husband had been assaulting and harassing her since their marriage. A complaint regarding this had been previously filed at Jaso police station. The woman has also handed over old pictures of the assault to the police, which have been included in the investigation. Assault started three months after marriage The victim’s father, Rajkumar Pandey, stated that his daughter was married in June 2020. A few months after the marriage, the son-in-law’s behavior became violent. Society and family members tried to explain many times, but the situation did not change. He said that what happened to his daughter on the night of December 28 is unforgivable. Based on the woman’s complaint, the police have registered a case against the accused husband, Anurag Tripathi, under Section 109(2) of the BNS and arrested him. The police say that the entire matter is being investigated seriously. The victim also has a three-and-a-half-year-old son.
