After a large-scale fraud under the water conservation campaign came to light in Khandwa district, the administration has initiated its first concrete action. Following an exposé by Dainik Bhaskar, an official inquiry found that several teachers uploaded AI-generated fake photographs and images of neighbours’ drainage pipelines on the “Catch the Rain” portal, falsely claiming them as rainwater harvesting systems, despite not having installed any such systems at their homes. Based on the probe, four teachers have been suspended, while disciplinary action has been taken against others, including the stoppage of salary increments and salary deductions. How the fraud was carried out The district administration’s investigation revealed that some teachers posted under the Omkareshwar cluster centre had not installed rainwater harvesting systems at their residences. However, they allegedly used modern technology to create fabricated images and uploaded them to the portal. These fake entries led to an artificial inflation of the district’s water conservation data. Collector orders action Collector Rishav Gupta said strict action is being taken as per rules against those who violated official directions. He said a proposal has been sent to the Education Department Commissioner seeking the suspension of Jagdish Munevar, Principal of Omkareshwar Higher Secondary School. Separately, a proposal has been forwarded to the Commissioner of Public Education, Bhopal, recommending the stoppage of two salary increments (non-cumulative) for Dinesh Chauhan, Sarita Solanki, and Bharti Yadav. These Teachers were suspended Sandhya Rajput, Higher Grade Teacher Action taken on guest teachers too Data manipulation for the President’s Award The district was ranked first in the country in the Water Conservation Public Participation Campaign by manipulating data. Based on this, President Droupadi Murmu honoured Collector Rishav Gupta and District Panchayat CEO Dr. Nagarjun B. Gauda with a prize of ₹2 crore. However, despite action against teachers, it has come to light that many officials at DEO, DPC, ADPC, BEO, and BRC levels also don’t have water harvesting systems in their homes, on which no action has been taken so far.
