The uproar continues to grow over Mustafizur Rahman’s participation in the IPL 2026 tournament. Religious leaders in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain have threatened to take action if the Bangladeshi cricketer is allowed to play in IPL, after he was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). This comes amidst the anger over Hindus being attacked in Bangladesh. Two separate incidents, among others, of Hindus being lynched in Bangladesh have triggered massive outrage in India, with several sections of fans calling for a ban on Bangladeshi cricketers in the IPL. In Kolkata, protests were launched outside the Bangladesh High Commission, in Kolkata with protestors calling for action on those responsible for these incidents. Ujjain seers warn of disrupting matches Mahavir Nath, who is the chief priest of the Rinmukteshwar Mahadev Temple in Ujjain, has said that seers would invade stadiums, damage pitches and stop the matches if Mustafizur Rahman is allowed to play in the IPL. Not just him, but as per IANS, similar warnings have been made by other religious organisations. The Bangladesh left-arm pacer was acquired by the three-time champions for a whopping sum of Rs 9.2 crore after a bidding war with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Mustafizur had played for the Delhi Capitals last year. Fans have been calling for him to be banned over the violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. The BCCI, however, is yet to issue any response to the outrage and only time will tell if Mustafizur is allowed to compete in the upcoming IPL.
