Virat, Rohit miss third round of Vijay Hazare Trophy:Abhishek Sharma plays for Punjab against Uttarakhand, no Shubman Gill in action yet

Abhishek Sharma will feature for Punjab while the wait continues for Shubman Gill to be in action in the Vijay Hazare Trophy today, on 29 December. Punjab, having won both of their matches, will take on Uttarakhand today, in Jaipur, starting at 9:00 AM IST. A total of 10 teams- Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Baroda, Mumbai, Punjab, Goa, Delhi and Bihar will eye a hat-trick of wins. On the other hand, 10 teams will eye their maiden victory this season. They include Rajasthan, Puducherry, Assam, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Services and Mizoram (Plate Group). This is because the two Team India stalwarts had made themselves available only for the first two matches. Virat and Rohit both scored centuries in their respective opening matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Virat scored a stylish 77 in his second match while Rohit fell for a golden duck. Mumbai are set to take on Chattisgarh in their third match while Delhi take on Saurashtra. Abhishek has captained Punjab in their first match, which was against Maharashtra, but missed the second clash against Chandigarh. During a practice session, Abhishek reportedly smashed 45 sixes in an hour to train ahead of the match. Gill might feature in Punjab’s next match. He will have a point to prove after being left out of the T20 World Cup 2026, a format where he was named vice-captain earlier this year. The right-hander will look to regain his lost form ahead of the New Zealand ODI series.
