shreyas-iyer-set-for-return-in-new-zealand-odi-series:indian-batter-reportedly-in-line-to-make-comeback-after-injury

Shreyas Iyer is set to make his return to international cricket in the ODI series against New Zealand, according to the Times of India. The Indian batter has been out of action since suffering a spleen injury while fielding during an ODI against Australia in October. India will face New Zealand in a three-match ODI series, which starts on 11 January. The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) have not yet named India’s squad for the series and it is expected to be announced soon. Shreyas Iyer set for comeback to international cricket The right-hander, according to the Times of India report, has been training at the BCCI CoE (Centre of Excellence). Should there be no late development, Iyer is in line to make his return to international cricket. The 31-year-old is India’s vice-captain in ODI cricket and his return is indeed going to boost the team. He had missed India’s last ODI series against South Africa due to his injury and in his place, Ruturaj Gaikwad batted at number four. If he gets picked for the New Zealand ODIs, it will be interesting to see what the playing XI looks like. Shreyas Iyer to play Vijay Hazare Trophy Before turning up for India in the New Zealand ODI series, Iyer is expected to feature for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as well. The right-hander, the report adds, will join Mumbai’s squad in Jaipur on 2 December and will likely play on 3 January (vs Maharashtra) and 6 January (vs Himachal Pradesh). “We are hearing positive developments around Shreyas. He is very likely to play two games for Mumbai on January 3 and January 6. The final schedule will depend on clearance from CoE, but signs are positive for playing those games in Jaipur,” an MCA official was quoted as saying, by TOI.
