Smriti Mandhana scripted history on Sunday, 28 December, becoming the fastest woman to score 10,000 runs in international cricket. Riding on her brilliant 80-run knock off 48 balls, India defeated Sri Lanka by 30 runs in the fourth T20I played at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. With this victory, India have secured an unassailable 4-0 lead in the five-match series. Smriti was named Player of the Match for her performance. The fifth and final T20I will be played at the same venue on December 30.

The southpaw got past Harmanpreet Kaur, who held the record for hitting 78 sixes. Smriti struck three sixes in her 48-ball 80 against Sri Lanka and now has a total of 80 maximums to her name.

The two players scored 162 runs for their opening partnership against Sri Lanka in the fourth T20I, which broke their previous record of 143 against West Indies in 2019. The duo also achieved the feat of scoring 3000 runs in women’s T20Is together, becoming the first pair to get to the mark. While Smriti hit 80 runs off 48 balls, Shafali Verma scored 79 runs off 46 balls with 12 fours and one six.
